Dodge City Roundup Rodeo
What is Dodge City Roundup, Inc.?
Dodge City Roundup, Inc. is a non-profit corporation formed to promote and produce, or cause to be promoted or produced, rodeos, horse shows, roping contests, and related activities, and to promote and encourage the preservation of the Western Lifestyle and our Western Heritage.
At its inception (summer-1977), Dodge City Roundup had 175 contestants with a payout of $8,200. In 2009 our rodeo had grown to nearly 800 contestants entered to compete at the Dodge City Roundup Rodeo with a payout of almost $300,000! We have five (5) full nights of rodeo action! We are the only Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) Wrangler Million Dollar Tour Rodeo held in the state of Kansas, and the richest in contestant payout.
We are home to one of the nation’s oldest and longest running Little Britches Rodeos, attracting contestants and their families from nearly a dozen states. The Miss Rodeo Kansas Queen and Teen Pageants calls Dodge City Roundup their home, as well. The Dodge City Roundup High School Rodeo draws participants and their families from across the state to the arena for the high school rodeo competition. We’ll see nearly 40,000 folks come through our gates each year, with around 25,000 of these individuals attending our PRCA rodeo.
Our PRCA rodeo is held during Dodge City Days, a ten-day community and area-wide event, taking place each year in late July and early August. Our Dodge City Days event is the second largest community event held in the entire state of Kansas! The Roundup Arena is transformed to an outdoor concert venue for the annual KKJQ Dodge City Days Concert, on the first Friday of the festival, packing in over 6,000 music-hungry fans, then back to a rodeo arena for the rodeo just a few nights later!
Along with local and area supporters, we partner with a number of national sponsors to present one of the top rodeos in the nation.
Dodge City Roundup PRCA Rodeo has been named the PRCA’s “Large Outdoor Rodeo Committee of the Year” an unprecedented nine times! In 2008, the Dodge City Roundup Rodeo was selected by Time Magazine as one of the “50 Authentic American Experiences”. This selection is limited to one “experience” for each of the fifty (50) United States.
