MUTTON BUSTIN'

Justin Boot Mutton Bustin' sponsored by Sonic is fun for all. Kids ages 4-7 and that weigh 60 pounds or less ride on the backs of sheep and compete to see who can stay on the longest.

The first 125 kids to sign up will participate in the Mutton Bustin' competition. Mutton Bustin' slack will occur each night, Wednesday through Saturday, before the rodeo. Top 10 riders will come back during the rodeo that night. The top 3 riders from each night will come back on Sunday to compete for the finals.


FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How do I register for Mutton Bustin’?
Complete an official entry form and return it to Sonic Drive-In by July 12, 2026. Entries are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis, with 30 participants selected for each preliminary night (Wednesday through Saturday).

Who can register for Mutton Bustin’?
Mutton Bustin’ is open to boys and girls ages 4–7 who weigh less than 60 pounds. All participants will be weighed at check-in. Children exceeding the 60-pound weight limit will be disqualified.

Can I choose which night my child competes?
You may indicate your preferred competition night on the entry form; however, preferred dates are not guaranteed. Competition assignments are final.

How will I know if my child is selected?
Assignment letters will be mailed no later than July 17, 2026. The letter will include your child’s assigned competition night, ticket information, liability release, and instructions for completing registration.

What do I do if my child is selected?
Before July 28, bring the completed liability release and the $10 entry fee (cash only) to the Dodge City Roundup Rodeo box office. Your child will receive their official back number and event T-shirt at that time.

How does the competition work?
Thirty participants compete each preliminary night, Wednesday through Saturday. The top 10 riders from each preliminary advance to compete during that evening’s PRCA Rodeo performance. The top three riders each night receive medallions, and the nightly champion also receives a Justin Boots certificate. The top three riders from each preliminary night advance to the Sunday finals, where they compete for the championship trophy.
